Getting an appointment
If you think that you may benefit from the service you can speak to your doctor or another health professional about arranging a referral for you.
Once a request has been received for you to be seen by the service, you will be contacted by our booking service to offer a group information session for you to attend to find out more about the service.
Group Information Session
During this 90 minute session you will learn what support Weigh Ahead can offer and meet some members of our team. You will also be provided with some basic information to allow you to begin your weight loss journey with the service. Sessions are run during the day and early evening. If you decide Weigh Ahead is right for you we will be able to arrange an initial assessment for you before you leave the information session or you can take some time to think about it and contact us later.
Your assessment appointment
This is a one to one appointment with one of our therapists. During the appointment you will discuss your diet, lifestyle and medical history with the therapist and you will asked to be weighed and your measurements taken. This information will be used to develop a personal weight management plan with you. You will also be allocated a personal guide to support you throughout your 12 week programme by helping you to adopt a healthier way to live, being available to respond to your concerns or queries and keeping you inspired and motivated.
You will be offered treatment sessions over a 3 month period. A range of support can be provided, depending on what options are most suitable for you. We provide an opportunity for you to be in contact with us by phone, e-mail or by attendance at a group or one to one session held at various locations across the city. This will enable you to talk about your diet and activity, celebrate any successes, discuss any disappointments and develop plans for the week ahead.
Any information you provide will remain private and completely confidential and will only be shared with health professionals.
After 12 weeks
When you have completed your 12 week programme, your progress will be reviewed and you will be asked to attend a follow up appointment in another three months to review your weight and to check how you are managing. You will also be provided with details of other services that will be able to offer further ongoing support if you need it.
